International Symposium “Developmental eye-tracking research in reading”
avatar

October 23, 2013 - October 26, 2013

Jukka Hyönä posted the following call for participation on the Eye-Movement mailing list:

Call for participation
International Symposium “Developmental eye-tracking research in reading”
October 23-26, Hannover, Germany.

Further information and a preliminary program is available here:
http://www.mpib-berlin.mpg.de/en/node/11440

The underlying motive for this symposium is that eye-tracking research with a focus on developmental questions is still quite rare and only a few labs are actively conducting this kind of research. In addition, there is little consensus on theoretical issues and researchers engaged in this work are scattered across different countries. We therefore believe that the field would benefit from a meeting in which researchers from different countries could present their developmental work and discuss the theoretical and methodological challenges associated with developmental eye-tracking studies.

This motivation is reflected in the program of the symposium: There will be two theoretical sessions (concentrating on oculomotor and linguistic aspects respectively) and one methodological session (focusing on different experimental approaches and analyzing/modeling developmental eye-movement data). In addition, there will be one session in which recent developmental eye-tracking studies will be presented and one session exploring potential implications for education and other applied issues.

All talks are given by invited speakers. However there are a few places available for additional participants who can attend the symposium without giving a talk. There might also be the opportunity to present a poster in a separate poster session.

The workshop is supported by the VW foundation. Attendance of the symposium is free of charge and accommodation expenses will be covered. Travel costs are generally not reimbursed, but students can apply for a travel grant separately.

If you want to attend the symposium please send an email to devtrack[at]mpib-berlin.mpg[dot].de until August 31, 2013. In this email, briefly explain your motivation to attend the symposium, provide a short abstract (200 words) for a potential poster presentation and indicate whether you wish to be considered for a student travel grant.

Best regards,
Sascha Schroeder, Jukka Hyönä, Simon Liversedge
